A brief introduction of SHIGUANG ASSOCIATED OVERSEAS CHINESE MIDDLE SCHOOL IN SHISHI.

 

The high school is located near the beautiful Baogai Mountain, on the east end of Donggang road. It is a high quality and competitive school sitting on a large scale and it forms part of the government¡¯s project of optimizing the educational resources. It is the union of SHISHI MIDDLE SCHOOL and SHISHI HUQIAO MIDDLE SCHOOL to form the school it is today. It is the largest middle school in SHISHI. The campus consists of middle school and high school and the number of staff amounts to 356 and the number of students sums up to 4572. There are 2743 students in a total of 53 classes in the high school campus and 1729 students in 36 classes in total in the middle school. SHIGUANG ASSOCIATED OVERSEAS CHINESE MIDDLE SCHOOL grew out of SHISHI MIDDLE SCHOOL and SHISHI OVERSEAS CHINESE MIDDLE SCHOOL which were founded in 1946 and 1954 respectively. Both schools have a long academic history and a profound cultural foundation. SHIGUANG MIDDLE SCHOOL is a top class school in that it achieved a "civilized" award in Fujian province, it is also one of the country's base in experimental teaching methods. SHISHI OVERSEAS CHINESE MIDDLE SCHOOL is a base for the demonstration of the special features in Chinese education, and has also achieved the "civilized" award. Aside from that, SHISHI OVERSEAS CHINESE MIDDLE SCHOOL is also a role leading school on junior high school education in the Fujian province. In 2006, the education sector in Fujian province has allowed the newly-formed SHISHI ASSOCIATED OVERSEAS CHINESE MIDDLE SCHOOL to keep the title of ¡°Fujian province top grade normal middle school¡±.

 

After more than five decades, Shiguang Middle school has been able to achieve ¡°solidarity, sedulity, fraternity and enterprising¡± and teachers have been able to ¡°respect their job, love their student, be practical, be creative¡± through the following factors of ¡°encouragement, cultivation of morality, devotion to studies and practical efforts¡± from the school motto. All these have contributed a lot to the proper building and running of the school. Laws and morals, scientific researches, quality staffs and a strong administration provide a first-class structure to the school and the school is ready to build on the successful achievements and extract the best of its potential. There are 400 teachers who have been accredited by many local and provincial institutions and 23 of them are provincial mainstay teachers who have made key contributions to teachings. Furthermore, they have won for more than 300 times in various national and provincial competitions of high-quality teachings. The educational teaching atmosphere in the school is very good and teachers have published on important provincial magazines more than 180 dissertations on the subject of teaching.

Shiguang middle school is always striving on the principle of humanity, always trying to improve their views scientifically, and always trying to uphold the quality of their education in order to keep the minds of their students alert and to build them into a useful person of the society in the future. In the 60 years of history, the school has donated over 50,000 textbooks to middle school and high school graduates to better prepare them for their obstacles ahead .Many of the students that graduated from the school has also played a part in the donations. Wang Qi Ming and Wu Xin Tao have represented many professionals, professors and doctors from abroad to donate money to the poor to their hometown. A business woman, Lin Yu Yan, and other members of the business world such as ShiZiQing, have also represented the rest of the business chamber for the donation. The school insists on the giving of knowledge to the students who thirst for it. Since 1992, the middle school and high school examinations have taken a big step forward. The likes of Peking University, Tsing Hua University, Fu Dan University and Shanghai Jiaotong University have always been admitting students that have graduated from ShiGuang Middle School. This year, the students from the school that succeeded in entering into college have increased by approximately 100 students. In the year 2006, the number of students that went into university reached a high number of 516.

Moreover, the teaching is carried out with the following measures by controlling the number of students in a class and conducting the teachings in a people-oriented atmosphere and in a scientific way. In autumn 2006, Shiguang Associated Overseas Chinese middle school moved to a new campus which covers 220 hectares, with a total investment of over 200 millions RMB with 60 classrooms that can accommodate 3000 people, the surface area of the campus is 132634 m2. The first stage of the school-building project that includes lecture halls, laboratories, hostel 1 and canteen is completed and has been put into use. The second and third stages of this project are still in the midst of construction that comprises administrative building, hostel 2, teachers¡¯ hostels, a 400m standard size field track, stadium, swimming pool etc.
